Do The Hurdles in Life Prevent You From Reaching Your Goals?
Life has a way of throwing a wrench in the works just as you think you’ve got everything under control. Just when you’ve managed to steer onto the straight and narrow, a pothole appearts out of nowhere. This has probably happened to you more times than you can count.
You will have found ways to cope with certain obstacles and developed ways to overcome certain hurdles. How often do those hurdles prevent you from reaching your goals?
Remain Focused At All Times
No matter where your journey is leading you, you have to continue to make progress. It’s the only way you can achieve your goals. During difficult times, you have to remain focused on what you want. Your goals, and the path that you take to get there, give you purpose, and the chase brings you happiness.
What do you really want out of life?
Create short-term goals, as well as long-term goals, and figure out what you really want your life to look like. What does your ideal day look like? Take a virtual walk through the day and ask how you can make it a reality. What is missing from your life that would feed that reality?
What do you love about your daily routine? Where do you see yourself 5 years from now? 10 years from now? Even further into the future? What will it look like, what is it that you see yourself doing? You can start out in vague terms and work it into something more specific. Think about the steps you need to take to invest in the future you want for yourself.
Setting Life Goals
Your life goals should be specific. For example, save 20% of my income for retirement, retire at 65, go on vacations abroad once every three years, etc. etc.
Your goals should feature in your daily life. So, if you plan to vacation in Italy three years from now, keep Italian books around the house, watch shows about the food and the sights you will see. You can keep reminders around about your goal. When you start to struggle, those visual reminders will help you get over those hurdles. Make sure you keep track of your progress, celebrate, and reward yourself.
Stay Positive
Correct any self-talk that starts heading in a negative direction. Positive self-talk is more likely to keep you on track in achieving your goals. You may hit a rough patch, but that doesn’t stop you from putting aside that money every month. Use it as a reminder that you can get through anything because you already have. Take a look back at the things you’ve survived – this time is no different.
Think about your efforts – it’s how you reinforce them even if you’re going through a difficult time. What steps have you taken this week to move closer to achieving your goals? Did you make phone calls related to your goal? Did you do some research to support it? Perhaps you started learning the language of the country you plan to visit. If you did something, celebrate it.
Jump The Hurdles
It doesn’t matter what is going on around you, the hurdles that appear in your way do not need to slow you down.
Now what? Change, in all its forms, is never easy. You have to set your goals, think about your priorities, and transform those into your daily routine. When you do this, you have no excuses – the hurdles will never stop you from achieving your goals.
What hurdles are in your way right now? What will you do to ensure you overcome them?
